If you are taking your caravan on an adventure, it is important to pack your load the right way. Here is why and how:
Correct weight distribution enhances safety by reducing the likelihood of accidents or mishaps while towing. Improperly loaded caravans can result in the following:
· Poor braking performance
· Reduced steering control
· Unnecessary swaying
· Compromised stability, leading to accidents or loss of control
· Excessive wear and tear on tyres, leading to premature tyre failure and more fuel usage
· Overloading specific areas of the caravan can strain the suspension system and chassis components

Overloading your caravan is extremely dangerous. Putting too much weight on your camper can cause damage to the towing vehicle's tow bar and damage the camper's A-frame. Avoid overloading the front or rear sections, it can negatively impact the stability and this will also cause your vehicle to struggle to accelerate or climb hills.
By distributing the weight evenly, each tyre carries its fair share of the load.
Proper weight distribution helps maintain a balanced load, reducing stress on the suspension and chassis.
A well-balanced caravan will be less prone to swaying, fishtailing, or other undesirable handling characteristics. It ensures that the weight is evenly distributed across the axles, reducing the risk of overloading or under loading any individual tyre or axle.
Guide to pack your camper correctly
It is important to place most of your baggage and equipment weight over the centre of the axles, closer to the centre of the camper, followed by packing the front of your camper and then finally the rear.
The lower the centre of gravity, the more stable your caravan will be.
Always make sure to keep your nose cone in consideration when distributing the weight while packing.
Keep in mind to check your camper's GWM (the maximum weight of your caravan) on the data plate around the A-frame and the recommended weight your vehicle is allowed to tow to ensure you stay within the safe limits.
Use a weight distribution hitch if necessary, which can help redistribute the weight between the towing vehicle and the caravan.
By maintaining the correct level between your caravan and the tow vehicle, you can enjoy your trip with better braking, easier towing and a smoother ride.
